FIFO Shift Schedule: 28 days on / 14 days off
Job Description:
Second Cooks play a critical support role in delivering consistent, high-quality meals in a remote camp environment. Reporting to the Camp Chef or First Cook, you’ll assist with daily meal preparation and kitchen operations while maintaining strict food safety, cleanliness, and service standards.
This is a fly-in/fly-out camp role with accommodations and meals provided. The position requires flexibility, teamwork, and the ability to perform well in a fast-paced, high-volume kitchen setting.
Key responsibilities include:
- Assisting with preparation and cooking of hot and cold meals (breakfast, lunch, dinner, grab-and-go)
- Supporting daily food prep tasks including chopping, salads, sauces, baking, and meal assembly
- Monitoring food quality, portion control, and presentation
- Following safe food handling practices and HACCP standards
- Cleaning and sanitizing kitchen equipment, prep areas, and workstations
- Supporting inventory control through stock rotation, waste reduction, and shortage reporting
- Working collaboratively with the culinary team to meet service timelines
- Assisting with dishwashing and general camp cleaning duties as required
- Ensuring compliance with company and client safety protocols
- Participating in daily safety meetings and requirements
Qualifications & experience:
- 1–3 years of cooking experience in a high-volume kitchen
- Camp or institutional cooking experience (preferred)
- Valid Food Safe Level 1 certification
- Knowledge of HACCP and occupational health and safety standards
- First Aid certification (preferred)
- Strong English reading and writing skills
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and work extended rotations in a remote camp setting
- Ability to pass a pre-employment Drug & Alcohol test and background check
- Team-oriented mindset and strong work ethic
