FIFO Shift Schedule: 8 weeks on / 8 weeks off

Job Description:
Power Plant Supervisors are responsible for the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of power generation systems at Canadian Forces Station (CFS) Alert. Working in a fly-in/fly-out Arctic camp environment, you’ll lead power plant operations supporting critical Department of National Defence infrastructure at the northernmost permanently inhabited location in the world.

This is a permanent, rotational leadership role with private accommodations, meals, and travel provided. The position requires strong technical expertise, supervisory capability, and experience managing large-scale diesel power generation systems in remote environments.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Managing daily operations and maintenance of main and standby power plants
  • Supervising certified Power Plant Technicians and Bulk Fuel Technicians
  • Planning, scheduling, directing, and reporting on safe power plant operations
  • Ensuring uninterrupted power generation and compliance with operational standards
  • Overseeing maintenance and operational requirements for all power plant systems
  • Maintaining strong safety, professionalism, and operational discipline on site
  • Building, mentoring, and leading high-performing technical teams

Qualifications & experience:

  • Demonstrated experience operating power generation plants of 1500 KW or greater
  • Proven supervisory experience in power plant operations and maintenance
  • One of the following qualifications is required:
    • Heavy Duty Diesel Mechanic with diesel power plant operating experience (1500 KW+)
    • Industrial Electrician (Journeyperson) with diesel generator power plant experience
    • Electrical Generating Systems Technician with supervisory-level experience
  • Strong working knowledge of power plant systems and equipment
  • Proficient computer skills (MS Word, Excel, Project, Outlook)
  • Strong planning, organizational, and leadership skills

Employment type: Permanent, full-time
Hours: 48 hours per week (overtime available)
Isolation allowance: $27 per day worked on site
