FIFO Shift Schedule: 14 days on / 14 days off, 11-hour shifts (Tuesday fly day)
Job Description:
Based at Orano’s McClean Lake operation, the Metallurgist plays a key role in technical support, process optimization, and continuous improvement across mill operations. This role provides metallurgical reporting, data analysis, and troubleshooting while also supporting training, commissioning, and operational excellence initiatives. Suitable for candidates with varying levels of academic and professional experience.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide expertise in process design and metallurgical unit operations, including training colleagues
- Deliver timely metallurgical accounting, performance reporting, and production/reagent forecasting
- Apply process data systems (historian, SQL/Access, visualization tools) for reporting, troubleshooting, and investigations
- Review and update mill sampling/operating guidelines and ensure conformance
- Support commissioning of new equipment and systems
- Conduct metallurgical test work and provide coverage for Metallurgical Technicians when required
- Deliver timely and sustainable technical support to Operations, Maintenance, Safety, and Environment teams
- Apply investigative and continuous improvement principles to enhance mill efficiency
- Liaise with corporate or external technical resources when needed
- Uphold Orano’s health, safety, environmental, and ethical standards
Qualifications:
- Degree in Metallurgy, Chemical Engineering, or related field (EITs and recent grads encouraged to apply)
- Experience in metallurgical reporting, data systems, and process analysis considered an asset
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills
- Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively across teams
- Commitment to continuous improvement and safety culture
Camp & Travel:
- Fly-in fly-out to McClean Lake (Tuesday crew change)
- Camp accommodations and meals provided during rotation
