Job Description:
HVAC Technicians are responsible for maintaining and repairing all heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems at Canadian Forces Station (CFS) Alert. Working in one of the most remote locations in the world, you’ll support critical infrastructure for the Department of National Defence while operating in a fly-in/fly-out camp environment.
This is a rotational, camp-based role with private accommodations, meals, and travel provided. The position requires strong technical expertise, independence, and the ability to work effectively in extreme Arctic conditions.
Key responsibilities include:
- Installing, maintaining, and repairing HVAC systems, including air handling units, compressors, fans, heat exchangers, humidification systems, and kitchen exhaust systems
- Performing preventative and corrective maintenance to ensure optimal system performance
- Diagnosing system issues and repairing or replacing defective components
- Conducting performance testing and troubleshooting HVAC systems
- Completing required logs, documentation, and maintenance reports accurately and on time
- Performing preventative and corrective maintenance on kitchen and small appliances as assigned
- Maintaining Jordair compressors and filling station systems
- Collaborating with site staff and contractors to complete maintenance projects
- Participating in safety meetings and complying with all health and safety requirements
- Supporting additional duties as assigned to meet operational needs
Qualifications & experience:
- Secondary school graduation with formal HVAC training
- Red Seal certification or Journeyperson status with significant experience
- ODP certification
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in a commercial or industrial HVAC environment
- Strong knowledge of HVAC systems, codes, and regulations
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings
- Strong problem-solving, communication, and multitasking skills
- Ability to live and work effectively in a remote, cross-cultural camp environment
Employment type: Full-time, rotational
Compensation: $62.79–$66.10 per hour
Hours: 40 hours per week (overtime available)
Isolation allowance: $27 per day worked on site
