Job Description
FIFO Shift Schedule: 3 weeks on / 3 weeks off
Job Description:
Heavy Duty Mechanics play a mission-critical role in keeping heavy equipment operational in some of Canada’s most remote and demanding environments. In this role, you’ll be responsible for the ongoing maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of heavy equipment supporting remote camp operations, with a strong emphasis on reliability, winter readiness, and safety compliance.
Working on site with the project team, this position requires technical depth, autonomy, and the ability to diagnose and resolve mechanical issues without the safety net of a full shop environment. Arctic conditions add complexity—precision and preventative maintenance are non-negotiable.
This is a fly-in/fly-out camp role with accommodations, meals, travel, and on-site tools provided.
Key responsibilities include:
- Performing preventive maintenance, winterization, corrosion control, and component upgrades
- Diagnosing and repairing mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, and powertrain systems
- Overhauling and replacing major assemblies, components, and parts
- Working on loaders, dozers, excavators, graders, SnowCats, and light/heavy-duty trucks
- Utilizing CAT ET and SIS systems to troubleshoot and verify equipment performance
- Conducting test drives and system adjustments to confirm safe operation
- Maintaining accurate service and repair records
- Managing parts inventory and ordering supplies as required
- Participating in daily toolbox meetings and enforcing site safety practices
- Reporting unsafe conditions and ensuring compliance with corporate safety standards
- Working effectively in remote, Arctic environments outside of a traditional shop setting
