FIFO Shift Schedule: Camp-based rotation at Eskay Creek Mine, Northwestern BC

Job Description:
Skeena Gold + Silver is seeking an experienced Avalanche Technician to join the Eskay Creek Revitalization Project. Reporting to the Lead Avalanche Technician and Health & Safety Managers, this role is responsible for the leadership and operation of Skeena’s Avalanche Safety Program. The position includes risk management, forecasting, training, and emergency preparedness to ensure the safety of workers and assets in a mountainous winter environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and operate the Avalanche Safety Program, including forecasting and control operations
  • Provide leadership, direction, and communication to site teams on avalanche and winter safety practices
  • Conduct risk assessments and develop hazard reduction strategies
  • Develop and deliver avalanche and safety training materials
  • Support Emergency Response Team training and remain rescue-ready for mountain emergencies
  • Participate in incident/accident investigations
  • Maintain avalanche program equipment, supplies, and infrastructure
  • Collaborate with internal teams and external partners to integrate avalanche safety into broader project operations
  • Support other groups with fieldwork, data transfer, and technical input
  • Perform additional duties as assigned to support site safety and operations

Qualifications:

  • CAA Avalanche Professional (Level 2 certification)
  • WorkSafeBC Blasting Certification with helicopter + hand-charging endorsements
  • BC Mine Certification Program Blasting Certificate
  • Advanced First Aid (80+ hours)
  • Valid driver’s licence with clean record
  • ICS Certification

Experience & Skills:

  • 8+ seasons as an Avalanche Technician, with mining/industrial sector experience
  • Strong background in avalanche/weather forecasting and CAA InfoEx®
  • Experience managing helicopter safety and operations
  • Strong mountain travel skills, skiing ability, and physical fitness
  • Experience with over-snow vehicles (snowcat, snowmobile, UTV) an asset
  • GIS/mapping knowledge and MS Office proficiency
  • Adult teaching experience considered an asset
