Temporary Landfill Equipment Operator
FIFO Shift Schedule: 14 days on / 14 days off; 12-hour day shifts
Job Description:
The Temporary Landfill Equipment Operator supports landfill operations at the Suncor Firebag site in Fort McMurray. This is a temporary fly-in/fly-out, camp-based role with accommodations provided, running from immediate start through May 19, 2026. The role focuses on operating heavy equipment, supporting environmental controls, and maintaining landfill areas safely and efficiently.
Key responsibilities include:
Operating heavy equipment including excavator, wheel loader, bulldozer, and compactor
Completing pre-trip and post-trip inspections on equipment
Clearing debris, mud, and waste from equipment components
Completing leachate level measurements and underdrain sampling
Collecting and delivering water samples and operating pumps and hoses
Performing site maintenance including minor road repairs, snow removal, and litter pickup
Operating skid steer and zoom boom to reposition waste bins
Receiving and sorting metal and wood for landfill disposal
Requirements:
Valid Class 5 driver’s license
Driver’s abstract demonstrating safe and compliant driving
Minimum 3 years’ experience operating heavy equipment
Ability to meet physical demands of the role
Eligibility to work on all oilsands sites in the Fort McMurray region
Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Assets:
Class 3 driver’s license with air brake endorsement
Previous landfill or recycling operations experience
