FIFO Shift Schedule: 8 weeks on / 8 weeks off

Job Description:
Janitor / Kitchen Stewards play a critical role in maintaining clean, safe, and hygienic facilities at Canadian Forces Station (CFS) Alert. Working in a fly-in/fly-out remote camp environment, you’ll support daily operations by ensuring living areas, common spaces, and kitchen-adjacent areas meet strict sanitation and safety standards.

This is a permanent, rotational camp-based role with private accommodations, meals, and travel provided. The position supports essential Department of National Defence operations in one of the most remote locations in the world.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Cleaning and sanitizing restrooms, showers, sinks, mirrors, and floors
  • Sweeping, mopping, and vacuuming floors in hallways, offices, living quarters, common rooms, and fitness areas
  • Emptying garbage and recycling, replacing liners, and disposing of waste appropriately
  • Dusting and wiping surfaces including desks, tables, fixtures, windowsills, and furniture
  • Cleaning and polishing glass surfaces such as windows, doors, and mirrors
  • Restocking supplies including soap, paper products, and cleaning materials
  • Monitoring and maintaining cleaning equipment to ensure proper working condition
  • Adhering to sanitation standards and safe handling of cleaning chemicals
  • Performing general housekeeping duties including linen changes, bed making, and room preparation
  • Reporting maintenance or safety concerns to supervisors
  • Assisting with deep cleaning projects and post-event or renovation cleanup
  • Responding to on-site requests professionally and promptly
  • Supporting additional duties as assigned to meet operational needs

Qualifications & experience:

  • Previous janitorial, housekeeping, or custodial experience (preferred)
  • Ability to work independently and meet daily cleaning deadlines
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to cleanliness and safety
  • Ability to work effectively in a remote, camp-based environment
  • Physically capable of performing repetitive cleaning tasks

Employment type: Permanent, full-time
Compensation: $28.26–$29.75 per hour
Hours: 48 hours per week (overtime available)
Isolation allowance: $27 per day worked on site
