Job Description:
Based at Orano’s McClean Lake site, the Metallurgy Supervisor oversees the Metallurgical Lab and leads a team of Metallurgists and Technicians. This position combines technical expertise with people leadership to align daily lab operations with long-term mill objectives, ensuring safety, efficiency, and innovation. The role also provides cross-departmental technical support, validates reporting, and contributes to continuous improvement in metallurgical processes.
Key Responsibilities:
- Supervise and mentor Metallurgists and Technicians, providing feedback on tasks and objectives
- Manage the Metallurgical Lab, coordinating personnel and resources to meet deadlines
- Act as department lead in the absence of the Technical Superintendent
- Support Mill Operations, Maintenance, Safety, and Environment teams with timely technical input
- Lead validation of routine reporting and monthly management slide preparation
- Monitor mill performance and reagent consumption, proposing areas for improvement
- Attend operational and leadership meetings to ensure consistent communication across shifts
- Provide input into annual budgets and training needs for the department
- Drive departmental projects and collaborate with R&D for technical advancement
- Uphold Orano’s commitment to safety, environmental stewardship, and ethical standards
Qualifications:
- Degree in Metallurgy, Chemical Engineering, or related technical discipline
- Supervisory or team lead experience in a metallurgical or mineral processing environment
- Strong knowledge of mill processes, lab operations, and metallurgical testing
- Excellent organizational, leadership, and communication skills
- Ability to work collaboratively across multiple departments and disciplines
- Commitment to safety and environmental best practices
